Sports Medicine Services

As the Official Sports Medicine Services provider for Perth 2016, the Perth Integrated Health Clinic will provide Sports Massage, Physiotherapy/Physical Therapy and Taping services for Perth 2016 athletes.

The Perth Integrated Health Sports Medicine team are passionate about treating athletes to help with performance and recovery. The team are qualified university trained practitioners who work with athletes of all ages and backgrounds.

Sports Massage

30 minutes – AUD$40.00 per person

For the serious or recreational athlete, pre and post event sports massage works to enhance performance, reduce injuries and improve recovery.  Perth Integrated Health therapists will use a combination of deep tissue, trigger point pressure and remedial techniques to help tired muscles. Relaxation and remedial massage options also available so please do speak to the Perth Integrated Health therapists.

Physiotherapy/Physical Therapy

15 minutes – AUD$40.00 per person

For the athlete who has a musculoskeletal injury (pain, pinched nerve, strain, sprain) or an underlying medical condition needing attention by a qualified physiotherapist/physical therapist. Perth Integrated Health therapists will use a combination of deep tissue and trigger point treatment to treat the injury.

Taping

AUD$6.00 per person per area

Taping of joints / muscles for performance or recovery with dynamic taped called Rocktape. Common taping areas include shoulders, knees, hamstrings, quads, calves and ankles. Taping can also include low back and mid back. Cost includes taping for one area. Additional areas will be additional $6.00 per area.

Equipment/Implements

Perth 2016 will provide all implements for field events, including a selection of vaulting poles of different weights.

Competitors may use their own throwing implements provided these implements conform to the rules and are certified by the Equipment Official at least 90 minutes before the event. Please note that any other competitor in that specific flight or final has the right to use another competitor’s implement if he/she so wishes (Loss of Identity Rule).

Drug Testing

Drug testing will be conducted at Perth 2016, following the procedures outlined by World Masters Athletics.

If selected for drug testing Competitors must declare any/all medications being used by them on the doping control form. Any athlete using a prohibited substance as defined in the Regulations, must apply for an exemption (TUE) to the WMA Anti-Doping and Medical Committee. Athletes taking or requiring exemption for a prohibited substance must apply to the WMA Medical Officer (Dr. Martine Prévost) for a TUE exemption (17 rue Léon Roby FR-87000 LIMOGES: FRANCE. Tel: 0033 607 949 507, email: prevost.ma@wanadoo.fr ) If an exemption is refused, the prohibited substance(s) concerned must not be used and should you be selected for testing and the test proves positive this may result in a suspension. Please note that no other medical certificate(s) will be accepted in substitution for a TUE certificate. If you are granted a TUE exemption certificate, this must be with you at all times along with proof of identification, and must be produced at the Doping Control Centre if you are selected for a drug test. Details of prohibited substances and all Anti-Doping procedures are available on the IAAF (www.iaaf.org) website, the WMA (www.world-masters-athletics.org) website and your IAAF Affiliated Federation. The Competitor’s Handbook in Perth will also contain details of the Anti-Doping Procedures to be undertaken during the championships.

VenuesWest Athletes' Village

The VenuesWest Athletes’ Village will be located at the Western Australian Athletics Stadium (WAAS). The VenuesWest Athletes’ Village will be a hive of activity including entertainment, bar, catering outlets and merchandise stand.
