WA Athletics Stadium (WAAS)

Stephenson Street, Mount Claremont

The WA Athletics Stadium (WAAS), opened in May 2009, is one of Australia’s newest sporting facilities. The new state of the art athletics facilities recently hosted the 88th Australian National Athletics Championships, and selection trials for the 2010 Commonwealth Games took place at WAAS in 2010. The venue was designed and built to international standards, and has recently been resurfaced by Mondo, ensuring athletes’ maximum performance.

All non-stadia events (with the exception of the marathon and half marathon), event village and TIC are within walking distance from WAAS.


  • A nine-lane, 400 metre Mondo surface track (Class 1 – IAAF standard)
  • Two 12-lane, 110 metre sprint straights (front and back)
  • Two Shot Put circles
  • Two Training Shot Put circles
  • Two Discus Circles/Weight Throw circles
  • One Hammer Throw circle
  • Two Javelin Sectors
  • Two High Jump facilities
  • Six Long Jump/Triple Jump facilities

Warm-up and Training Facilities

A grass, cinders-based track at the University of Western Australia (UWA) Sports Park adjacent to the main stadium will provide excellent warm-up and training facilities for athletes, and includes changing rooms with showers. Some throwing events may also be held in the UWA Sport Park.


Ern Clark Athletic Centre

Wharf Street, Cannington

The Ern Clark Athletics Centre has recently been upgraded with a Mondo synthetic track as used in the Sydney and Athens Olympics, as well as the Melbourne Commonwealth Games.


  • An eight-lane 400 metre Mondo surface track with a 10-lane straight, certified to IAAF standard
  • One Hammer/Discus circle
  • One Discus circle
  • Two Shot/Weight circles
  • Two Javelin Sectors
  • Floodlighting for night events
